Dimension Doorways : A Point Click Immersive Installation Lesson
Learners will learn about different types of art installations, focusing on immersive experiences and how it translates into point and click formats. Learners will work individually or in pairs to create their own immersive installation developing a nature based environment using traditional pieces with digital elements like custom QR codes leading to auditory/visual components, video overlays, and other click interact components.
Escapism is a very well-worn concept to most artists and media enjoyers. The path of a heavy mind that leads to wishing to simply step away, pause and leave until things are easier to handle because humans value memories and experience. Humans can close their eyes and go anywhere. It has also been found that the human mind processes better and connects more to things they can personally relate to or experience. Thus the rise in immersive installations in museums was inevitable, especially after the past events that paused the entire world.

This lesson is initially intended for 6th Grade learners following NC teaching standards. It introduces a different perspective at how to experience art and how to create deeper art. Using accessible programs, I chose to use Canva, learners will experiment and explore with powerpoint making to make a 9-13 slide with point and click elements of visuals and sounds. It will explore sensory and science-fiction portals using a hero’s journey visual story.
